The Gherkin

With breath-taking 360 degree views over London this is one of the unique venues to say ‘I do’. The Gherkin is usually a private members’ club, but offers wedding ceremonies with sweeping views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the rest of the cityscape. Champagne under the glass dome at sunset is incredibly romantic. Licensed to hold ceremonies, elegant dinners for up to 140 people or 260 guests for stylish standing receptions. There is also a contemporary private dining rooms or members lounge to host a 30 for a seated wedding breakfast to 70 for a standing reception.

Cafe de Paris

Cafe de Paris opened in 1924 and is a dazzling and opulent wedding venue that will leave a lasting impression on guests. With many original features including the uniquely grand sweeping staircases, glittering chandeliers and stunning ballroom floor, Cafe de Paris makes for the perfect central London venue with a capacity from 180 to 715 depending on the areas booked.

The Marriage En Masse

Started in 2014 to celebrate the legalisation of same-sex weddings, the Southbank Centre has made mass wedding weekends an annual event to mark the finale of Festival of Love over the August bank holiday weekend. There are four ceremonies on the day, with each couple saying their vows separately (shown on the big screen) while their guests sit in the audience before all couples are simultaneously pronounced married and exchange rings. Packages are for 40 guests, including bubbly and a disco.

MC Motors

MC Motors is a 6,000 sq/ft East London warehouse, previously a mechanics from which it takes the name. Perfect for receptions, the industrial location oozes character and natural charm with the sky-lighted roof providing an abundance of natural light and uniquely, an untouched Victorian street running through the middle. There are a large selection of fantastic props displayed throughout the location and upon arrival through the unassuming entrance the term ‘stumbling upon an Aladdin s Cave’ has often been applied.

Borough Market Hall

Borough Market is London’s oldest and most renowned market. It’s also licensed for weddings. The impressive, high-ceilinged Market Hall has a 250-person capacity, while Three Crown Square can host up to 200 people, and has a fully restored Victorian glass and ironwork roof, making it one of the most flexible and unique venues for wedding receptions.

Simon Drake’s House of Magic

Invite up to 150 guests to experience magic in a Victorian mansion at a secret address in central London. Guests will be transported to the reception in vintage cars and limousines and led into the Enchanted Garden for drinks and canapés before a fun evening with Simon Drake’s unique award winning style of enchanting magic and original illusions. Exclusive hire is available for groups of 40 up to 150 guests.

The Cutty Sark

Capture the romance and adventure of the great age of the sail aboard one of the world’s most famous and beautiful ships. Host your evening wedding or civil partnership at Cutty Sark, the last remaining tea clipper who survived the world’s stormy seas to become the fastest and greatest of her time. With amazing photography opportunities, you can hire the ship exclusively for between 70 and 300 guests.

Ulrich Picture Gallery

Celebrate your wedding dinner next to unique Rembrandts, Raphael and more at the Dulwich Picture Gallery where more than 300 old masters adorn the walls of the Soane Gallery. This most artistic of venues can host up to 150 guests for your wedding ceremony and up to 400 guests for a reception, depending on your room selection.

Asylum

It’s not that we think you’re mad to get married, so don’t be worried about the name. Asylum Chapel offers a beautiful space with an edgy feel for your wedding ceremony and is one of London’s unique venues, built in the nineteenth century as an institution for retired workers from the alcohol trade and then bombed in the 1940’s. Wedding receptions are not allowed here, but we’ve listed other Southwark venues on this list for your consideration. Capacity is up to 120 guests.
